An Old Farmer’s Advice

There are truly good, sound principles here that will help you live a better Christian life.

AN OLD FARMER’S ADVICE

~ Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.
~ Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
~ A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.
~ Words that soak into your ears are whispered…not yelled.
~ Meanness don’t jes’ happen overnight.
~ Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads.
~ Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.
~ It don’t take a very big person to carry a grudge.
~ You cannot unsay a cruel word.
~ Every path has a few puddles.
~ When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.
~ The best sermons are lived, not preached.
~ Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway.
~ Don’t judge folks by their relatives.
~ Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
~ Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll enjoy it a second time.
~ Don’t interfere with somethin’ that ain’t botherin’ you none.
~ If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.
~ Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.
~ The biggest troublemaker you’ll probably ever have to deal with watches you from the mirror every mornin’.
~ Always drink upstream from the herd.
~ Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.
~ Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in.
~ If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.

Drawing of the Observable Universe

I have made several posts of photos taken by the Hubble Telescope, but this is a drawing of the whole universe that we have observed up until this point and its distance from earth. It is absolutely amazing to me what a BIG God we have. The world He created is so vast that we have not been able to see it all, even with high-powered telescopes.

Everything works perfectly and in order day after day. If He is capable of creating such astounding things, how can you ever doubt that He desires to meet your every need.

Give Him all the praise and glory and start this moment to give Him your problems.

Earthly Riches are Standard Fare in Heaven!

There once was a rich man who was near death. He was very grieved because he had worked so hard for his money and he wanted to be able to take it with him to heaven. So he began to pray that he might be able to take some of his wealth with him.

An angel hears his plea and appears to him, “Sorry, but you can’t take your wealth with you.”

The man implores the angel to speak to God to see if He might bend the rules.

The man continues to pray that his wealth could follow him. The angel reappears and informs the man that God has decided to allow him to take one suitcase with him. Overjoyed, the man gathers his largest suitcase and fills it with pure gold bars and places it beside his bed.

Soon afterward the man dies and shows up at the Gates of Heaven to greet St. Peter. Seeing the suitcase Peter says, “Hold on, you can’t bring that in here!”

But the man explains to him that he has permission and asks him to verify his story with the Lord. Sure enough, Peter checks and comes back saying, “You’re right. You are allowed one carry-on bag, but I’m supposed to check its contents before letting it through.”

Peter opens the suitcase to inspect the worldly items that the man found too precious to leave behind and exclaims, “You brought pavement?!?!” (Revelation 21:21) (from Mikey’s Funnies)

Isn’t it amazing how what we think is so valuable on earth is just standard fare in heaven? When we get there I’m sure we won’t even give a thought to any riches we had here. Heaven will be far more beautiful than any of us can imagine.

Make sure that you know without a doubt you will go there when you die.

In the End Everything is Between You and God

A Little Inspiration

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, It is between you and God;
It never was between you and them anyway.

Don’t Worry – God Will Take Care of You!

dont-worry

What an awesome word picture!

If God takes care of the birds and flowers, how much more will He take care of you if you will just trust Him. Instead of looking at your problems, set your eyes on Him and don’t let the cares of the world drag you down.

Trust, try, and prove him to see what He will do in your life.

Are You Ready For A Wild Ride?

huge-wave

To a good surfer, this would be an awesome wave. He would feel in total control as he balanced and maneuvered his way through it, finally landing on the shore.

As I look at the picture, though, I am struck by how huge and powerful the wave is compared to the small person riding it. It would only take one mistake for him to be totally swallowed up.

I wonder if many of us feel that life is so huge, powerful, and overwhelming that we can’t see much light at the end of the tunnel.

If you have asked Jesus to come in your heart and you are a Christian, imagine that the huge wave is God and you are the surfer.  He totally surrounds you on all sides, while He leads and maneuvers you through some treacherous waters until you reach the shore safely.

Give him control of your life and let Him lead you in the direction He would have you to go.

It might be a wild ride, but you won’t be bored!! You really can trust Him to give you His Very Best.

Have you Lost your Sense of Wonder?

old-and-young1

old-and-young2

As we get older, it is easy to lose the sense of wonder about things you see everyday because you start to take them for granted. Children get excited about doing just the plain, ordinary things of everyday life and we love to see the world through their eyes.

It is also easy to put God in a box and expect Him to act only in certain ways that you might be accustomed to.  He has the whole universe at His disposal and can use any person or circumstance to answer your prayer or meet your need.

As God has been working in my life the last few years, He has led me down roads that I would never have thought about going on my own. I have been filled with much wonder and amazement at how He has brought things together. It is an awesome  feeling when you know you are in the center of God’s Will for your life.

Suddenly your own plans don’t seem as important as they once were. You feel as if you are part of something much greater than anything you could ever conjure up on your own. You also get so excited that God would choose you to do something for Him. After all, He could have chosen anyone, but He chose YOU. What an honor!

When you can reach this point, your childhood wonder will have returned about everyday life. It won’t be boring and mundane any more because God will definitely encourage you to trust and prove Him to see what He can and will do in your life.

Try it and see what happens!

Great Advice for Living

I received this in an email and think it is great advice to live by.

God has been convicting me about simplifying my life and getting rid of all the clutter in my house. It is easy to collect stuff, and before you know it you have way too much of it, not to mention all the time it takes to clean it.

Of course #14 is and has always been great advice. There are way too many times when I should have heeded it and didn’t.

God has also made me aware that laughter is something I should not push aside. There are so many bad things in the world today that it is easy to get down about life in general. It is a wonderful feeling to have a good “belly laugh” about something. It lightens your whole mood for awhile. Don’t take life too seriously. Make time to laugh.

God dealt with me about the issue of saying no to things that won’t fit in my schedule a few years ago. I had a lot of guilt at first, but now I pray about the matter and if God says NO, I don’t feel guilty any more. I know that He has bigger and better plans for me and I want to be a good steward of my time.

I have also learned to be more grateful for the wonderful blessings God has given me. Being grateful also changes your life in other areas for the better.

Read this list, pray about it, and see if God reveals any areas where you need change. God wants you to be a vessel He can work through to accomplish great things for His Kingdom.

GREAT ADVICE FOR LIVING

Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn’t happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.

1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
4. Say No to projects that won’t fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don’t lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns . If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety . If you can’t do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don’t use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.
17. Get enough rest.
18. Eat right.
19. Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don’t wait until it’s time to go to bed to try and pray.
24. Make friends with Godly people.

25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good ‘Thank you Jesus .’
27. Laugh.
28. Laugh some more!
29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
32. Sit on your ego.
33. Talk less; listen more.
34. Slow down.
35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.
36 Every night before bed, think of one thing you’re grateful for that you’ve never been grateful for before.

GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.

‘If God is for us, who can be against us?’
(Romans 8:31)

Don’t Settle for Less than God’s Best

websanddollar1

How many times have you settled for something that looked good to you and missed the awesome thing that would have been God’s Best.

Just like the picture, they are so focused on the small thing that they are missing the much bigger and better thing that is right behind them.

God has a great plan for your life, but you must focus on Him in order to find out what it is. You cannot look at any situation with your limited vision and determine the right thing to do. God may want you to do something you have never even thought about. After all, you are not capable on your own of seeing the big picture and how everything fits together.

God wants to be able to tell you to do something that you are definitely not capable of doing on your own. Then He will get all the credit and glory for it. This can be a scary place until you realize that you can truly trust Him with your life. He looks down at you and just wants you to let Him take care of all the details.

The Holy Spirit wants to lead you in decisions you make each day.  Don’t try to do it alone any more and don’t settle for anything less than God’s Best for your life.
